A society reveals its priorities through the institutions it is prepared to build. We create command centres to monitor threats and coordinate emergency responses. We should bring comparable seriousness to a different task: discovering what helps people and ecosystems thrive, and enabling others to learn from it.

In 1984, the American futurist and author Barbara Marx Hubbard stood before the Democratic National Convention as a vice-presidential nominee. Her platform was not built on typical partisan rhetoric, but on a revolutionary proposition: humanity urgently needed a new social function to “scan for, map, connect, and communicate what is working in the U.S. and worldwide.” Today, decades after she first articulated this vision, and years after her passing in 2019, that call to action has never been more critical. It is time to fully realize her dream through a comprehensive Global Solutions Center.

We live in an era defined by a paradox of information. We are constantly bombarded with detailed breakdowns of our planetary crises, climate change, social fragmentation, economic inequality, and ecological collapse. A dynamic and impactful Global Solutions Center (GSC) is the missing link in our global architecture. Its primary mandate would be straightforward yet transformative: to identify, assemble, and scale solutions to local, national, and global problems, making them universally accessible as rapidly as possible. By creating a centralized repository of “what works,” a GSC would dramatically shorten the learning curve for governments, NGOs, and communities. It would prevent costly systemic mistakes, accelerate sustainable development, and serve as a powerful engine for repairing the damage we have inflicted on our planet.

The philosophy behind the GSC goes beyond mere data collection. True societal evolution requires a dual approach: outer solutions must be mirrored by a commitment to inner development. We cannot solve our physical, outer crises using the same unconscious mindset that created them. True sustainability requires a shift in consciousness, moving from passive observers of our decline to active, conscious co-creators of our future.

The economic and human cost of not having such a center is immense. Every day we delay in connecting proven solutions to the places that need them most is a day wasted in the fight for a livable future. Barbara Marx Hubbard saw clearly that humanity was transitioning into a phase where we must become fully conscious of our impact. Investing in a Global Solutions Center is not just an idealistic pursuit; it is a pragmatic, highly urgent necessity to ensure our collective survival and evolution.
